Moussaka

For a while, Mason has been talking about the food in Bulgaria. He was searching for recipes for some dishes and he found one that would be a good one to try. So we tried it. We didn't have the spice that the Bulgarian's use, but it still turned out really well. Here is a picture, and the recipe:

1 lb ground pork and ground beef (half pound of each)

1 onion finely chopped
2 lbs of potatoes chopped into bite size pieces
2 tomatoes, chopped
1/3 cup Parsley, chopped
2 Tbsp Chubritza or Oregano
1 C plain yogurt
3 Eggs, beaten
2 Tbsp flour

In a hot pan cook meat and onion for 10 minutes or until cooked. You may want to add a little oil if you are using lean meat. While that is cooking, chop veggies and combine in a large bowl. Once meat is cooked, add to bowl of veggies and combine. Add salt and pepper to taste. Pour into a casserole dish (I used a 9x13 and worked great.) Bake at 375 for 45 minutes. When that is getting close to being done, mix flour, eggs, and yogurt. Once the casserole is done, top with yogurt mixture. Cook that for an additional 10 minutes. Let cool slightly and serve.

We also used some of the leftover plain yogurt on top of the Moussaka. It is delicious!
